Ringworm in Children

Tinea capitis is a fungal infection of the scalp that occurs in children. It is usually characterized by itching, hair loss, redness, and flaking. The fungus can be transmitted through direct contact with infected people or through contaminated objects. This infection is common in school-aged children.

Treatment is with oral antifungal medications, as topical treatments are often inadequate for treating ringworm. The duration of treatment usually ranges from 6 to 8 weeks. It is also important to keep the scalp clean and not share personal items. Children should be encouraged to practice proper hygiene at school and at home to prevent the spread of infection.
