Warts in Children

Warts are known as raised, hard growths that form on the upper layer of the skin and are caused by infection with the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They are most commonly seen on the hands, feet and face of children. Warts are usually harmless, but they can be bothersome and have the potential to spread.

Treatment options include cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen), topical salicylic acid applications, and sometimes laser therapy. It is possible for warts to disappear on their own, but treatment is usually done to reduce contagiousness and discomfort. It is important to prevent children from scratching or picking at warts to prevent the spread of infection.
