Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis pilaris is a common skin condition in which small, rough bumps form on the skin. It usually occurs on the upper arms, legs, and buttocks. This condition is caused by a buildup of keratin in the skin and is usually harmless. In children, keratosis pilaris causes the skin to feel and look rough on its surface.

Treatment focuses on moisturizing the skin and reducing keratin buildup. Moisturizers containing urea or lactic acid and topical retinoids can be used. Regular exfoliation also helps reduce keratin buildup on the skin's surface. Keratosis pilaris usually persists until puberty and then resolves. The condition is usually a cosmetic concern and does not cause serious health problems.
